The Students for Economic Justice Fellowship is an intensive program for committed student activists. The program embodies the core values that make the community of San Diego so great. As an SEJ Fellow I have gained hands-on organizing experience in a local campaign for economic justice. I was partnered with the United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters & HVAC/R Local 230. This labor union recommends positions on propositions and candidates running for elected office that are in workers’ interests.
At a time when workers are anxious about their economic security and corporations are making record profits, the SEJ Fellowship offers students a progressive platform to advocate on their behalf. The program has contributed to my skills as a leader and community organizer who will push forward social change and economic justice in San Diego. We’re using our unique role to build public-private partnerships that are making significant progress and increase access to good jobs, quality healthcare, and improve overall conditions for low-wage workers and families. To help solve these community issues, we recruit the people and organizations that bring the resources, expertise, and passion needed to achieve our intended result. As we work to strengthen our community and bring real solutions to our region’s most pressing problems, we help improve the lives of all San Diegans.
Without the support of community members who stand in unity as well as solidarity, the SEJ Fellowship would not be possible. I would like to respectfully ask you to support this program.
